Mairela Retreat cottage is a three roomed cottage built in the 1970's. Check out the accomodation by clicking on the images
The retreat cottage has a living room with an open fire which is very relaxing and perfect for cooking Finnish sausages after the sauna. There is plenty of cut and seasoned wood available. There is a small library of books available including fiction and health titles plus a stereo with some meditational CDs.
The living room has a dining table with views out towards the lake, as well as fireside chairs and a sofa bed.
The bedroom has a two single beds (which can be placed together if you want a double) with a small gallery above which has two single mattresses. I always say that the cabin sleeps two very comfortably, three very well, four is very possible (using the sofa bed in the living room) and five is a do-able squeeze if you are good friends!
The kitchen has a refridgerator, an electric cooker, juicer, coffee maker, microwave and a sink. Cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, towels and linen are provided. Please note that there is no running water in the cottage but fresh spring water can be collected from the well situated 20m from the cottage. The well is fed from a natural spring and is the same water that I use in my house, deliciously cool and free from any chemical additives just as Mother Nature intended. Mairela retreat cottage, as a typical Finnish summer place, has an outside toilet which is also chemical free thus enhancing the holistic holiday aspect! Mairela is built to be eco friendly and maintain the beauty of the surroundings.
The sauna provides the washing facilities for the cottage and is down by the lake side. It has 3 rooms, a dressing room, a wash room and the actual sauna room. The hot water is heated in the wash room and the water is collected from the lake. Both fires are wood burning and there is a plentiful supply of dry seasoned wood. The lake is small offering good fishing for pike, perch, roach, whitefish and bream. Please note, only go fishing if you plan to eat what you catch or give it to me to eat! Fishing is not a sport
